JUVÉDERM® is the first smooth consistency gel formulation and only hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved by the FDA to last up to one year from initial treatment. JUVÉDERM® is developed using the proprietary HYLACROSS™ technology, an advanced manufacturing process that results in a malleable, smooth gel that flows easily and consistently into the skin and provides a predictable result. All other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers currently on the market have a granular consistency gel. These granules can be seen under 2.4x magnification as opposed to the smooth consistency gel of the JUVÉDERM® dermal fillers.

In 2010, the FDA approved JUVÉDERM® XC formulated with the local anesthetic lidocaine to provide patients with a more comfortable injection experience when compared to the non-lidocaine formulation, and potentially less time spent in the physician’s office. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC contain 0.3% preservative-free lidocaine and numb the treatment area within seconds, potentially reducing the need for an additional anesthetic. JUVÉDERM® XC products provide the same smooth, long-lasting results as demonstrated with existing JUVÉDERM® products.

Restylane SILK
The lips and the lines around the mouth, like other areas of the face, show signs of aging as you get older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane Silk is designed specifically to provide natural-looking results in these particular areas by using smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane® products.

  • 98% of patients reported a visible improvement in lip fullness 14 days after injection.
  • 76% of patients still had lip improvement six months following injection.

Restylane LYFT
As we age and our faces lose volume, some of us begin to look for ways to regain more structure to our cheeks without surgery. Restylane Lyft, formerly known as Perlane-L®, is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel used to correct volume loss and treat wrinkles in the face.

Restylane Lyft is the first and only FDA-approved filler indicated to provide fullness to cheeks and add volume to correct and smooth smile lines (nasolabial folds).

Over time, the natural fat surrounding the cheeks begins to deteriorate, resulting in a reduction of volume, sagging skin and more prominent wrinkles. Through nonsurgical injections, Restylane Lyft is specifically designed to add fullness to the cheeks and midface area, which can result in a natural-looking appearance.

“This new FDA approved filler specifically targets lack of volume and sagging skin to offer a subtle lift to the face. Juvederm Voluma XC is the first and only FDA-approved filler for adding volume to the cheek area. The injectable gel formula uses hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin, and requires little to no downtime.

Juvéderm Voluma XC, uses Allergan’s Vycross technology that results in a smooth gel. It also contains lidocaine to help numb the area during an injection procedure. The filler is specifically designed to lift sagging areas. What makes it different is that it uses a lower molecular weight hyaluronic acid that allows for increased cross-linking that gives the product an ideal lift capacity for the midface.

Results demonstrated that almost 50 percent of patients were maintaining optimal correction at two years. Similarly, patients demonstrated clinically significant results after almost three years. Patients received touch-up treatment after 30 days as necessary and were followed up at one month, three months and then quarterly for up to two years, according to the study.

90 percent of patients reported feeling that they appeared, on average, five years younger at six months based on analysis of patient diaries. As far out as two years, patient satisfaction was at 76 percent.

The most common adverse effects seen during the clinical trial were injection site tenderness, bruising, redness, discoloration, swelling, lumps/bumps, firmness, itching, and pain that lasted approximately two to four weeks.”

What is the difference between Juvederm and Juvederm Voluma XC?
“Juvederm is administered to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. It helps smooth out moderate to severe wrinkles that form around the nose and mouth from aging. Juvederm Voluma XC specifically targets loss of volume in the cheeks to provide a subtle lift and reduce the signs of aging.”

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring, hydrating substance found in your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume.

Fillers Q/A

Q: How long does filler last?
A: Fillers can last from 6-18 months based on the area they are used in.

Q. What are dermal fillers?
A. Dermal fillers are products that are injected into the dermis of the skin to subtly increase volume and soften folds and wrinkles of the face. The first dermal filler was approved by the FDA in 1981. There are several types & brands of fillers ie. Hyaluronic Acid (HA’s) Juvederm/Voluma, Restylane Lyft/Silk, and calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Radiesse.

Q: How do dermal fillers work?
A: Fillers are injected below the surface of the skin to volumize areas that have lost their natural volume due to decreased production of hyaluronic acid, college & elastin as well as loss of fat, muscle and bone. Fillers are an excellent tool to create lift in the mid face region as well as fill the valleys and plump regions around the mouth.

Q: What is the difference between tox and fillers?
A: The easiest way to visualize the difference between botox and dermal fillers is to think of mountains and valleys. Botox smooths out mountains and prevents them from being pushed together, while dermal fillers fill in valleys.

Q: Are skin tests needed before treatment?
A: No skin testing is required prior to use.

Q: What are the side effects?
A: The most commonly reported side effects are temporary injection site redness, swelling, pain/tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, and bruising. These symptoms usually resolve within a couple of hours to a couple of days.

Q: Can I do anything to help reduce the risk of these side effects?
A: What is recommended is taking arnica montanta 2 days before any procedure & continuing several days after if bruising does occur.

Q: What medications or supplements should I avoid before getting fillers?
A: If you are taking blood thinners or medications* that may interfere with clotting of the blood, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, aleve, or most non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, gingko, Vitamin E, St. Johns’ whort, red wine, you might be more likely to have bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Stopping these 2-7 days in advance & 1-2 days after is highly recommended.

*Note: if on coumadin, plavix or any other agent for stroke prevention it is NOT recommended to stop without your doctor’s clearance.

Q: I have a big event planned, when should I schedule a filler treatment in order to look my best for the event?
A: Although fillers offer immediate results you may experience some swelling and bruising as a result of treatments. Giving yourself 1 month prior to a large event will allow you the time necessary to heal from the procedure and adjust to your great new look! Minimum 2 weeks before a not so large event.
